At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (BBBSEM) we believe that every child deserves to have a mentor in their corner and to ignite and defend their potential. That's why we are committed to promoting the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. To accomplish this we partner with schools, workplaces, and volunteers all over Eastern Massachusetts to bring our program and services closest to youth who need them.

Role Summary
As a Bus Monitor you will play a unique and essential part in supporting the success of our matches. In the times when our youth need to be transported to local sites to meet with their mentors, you will provide guidance and support during their travels, as well as aid in the overseeing of youth on-site. You will partner with a full-time staff member throughout this process. In doing so, you will play a key role making sure our youth have a safe, enjoyable experience with their mentors.

As a stipend position you will receive your stipend amount at the beginning of the semester and then be expected to complete your assigned hours throughout the semester.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend up to 5 Saturday events throughout the spring 2025 academic semester. Should be available from 10am - 5pm.
  • Alongside Match Support staff, travel with youth via agency provided transportation to and from program site.
  • Monitor behavior on the bus to ensure that all children are safe and behavior is appropriate. Adhere to agency safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with other staff, parents/guardians, and ‘Bigs’ to ensure a safe and positive experience for all youth in the program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelors Degree
  • Availability to work Saturdays
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with BBBSEM programs and guidelines
  • Demonstrated comfort and ability to work with and motivate a wide variety of people, including youth and adults, with a preference for candidates with experience in racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse urban and/or recent immigrant communities
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, a positive sense of humor, and a “can-do” attitude
Pay: $350 stipend per school semester
