As the nation’s premier mentoring agency, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (BBBSEM) is committed to promoting the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. To further our mission, over the past few years we have partnered with schools in the Boston area to bring our program and services closest to youth who need them. This role is a critical part of making sure people know about and have a chance to participate in our programs. Within our Community Engagement team, we are a customer-focused, goal-driven department and that drives the vision, strategies and tactics to increase participation from volunteers, families and external partners. 

Role Summary 
Reporting to the Regional Director, the Community Recruitment Coordinator will play a key role in the strategic growth of the agency through the ownership of volunteer recruitment and youth outreach efforts. You will be part of a dynamic region with a plan to double our service by 2028. We achieve this by cultivating and creating unique engagement opportunities, including formal presentations, events, and leveraging the BBBSEM network to speak on our behalf and share our message as broadly as possible. 

Key Responsibilities 
  • Identify, pursue and obtain community and institutional partners who can provide ongoing supply of potential volunteers. Maintain these relationships through consistent and appropriate communications and meetings as necessary, working alongside the Regional Director and other relevant agency members 
  • Attend networking, outreach, and recruiting events across Cape Cod, the Islands, and Plymouth 
  • Create, monitor, and report on key recruitment pipeline metrics; use data to drive increasing success. When relevant, contribute real-time ideas to improve reach and performance. 
  • Execute and deliver targeted volunteer recruitment initiatives focused on current partners, affinity groups, current Bigs, distinct communities and ethnicities, and develop plans to leverage national BBBS recruitment campaigns 
  • Work in collaboration and in conjunction across departments to develop responsive, innovative and sustainable partnerships including events and targeted campaigns.   
Basic Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1 or more years of work experience, preferably in marketing, sales, recruiting, and/or development 
  • Ability to learn and speak to BBBSEM’s purpose and the landscape, communities and cultures of Cape Cod, the Islands, and Plymouth.  Existing network to leverage in this position a plus. 
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for travel as needed 
  • Able to create competitive and innovative recruitment and referral materials to build direct engagement of current volunteers and generate referrals 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (excel, powerpoint, etc.) and the Salesforce CRM system. 
  • Ability to communicate with professionalism, enthusiasm, and empathy to large groups and individuals verbally and in writing 
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region (CCI & Plymouth) when necessary, comfortable with ferry travel to Islands. Must be available to attend events in some early morning, evening and weekends. 
Desired Qualifications 
  • Effective and confident public speaker; proven ability to develop strong working relationships.  Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. 
  • Exceptional relationship management skills; ability to network and gain access to decision-makers; genuine listener; comfortable making cold calls and setting up appointments; consultative sales approach. 
  • Experience successfully working with and recruiting with keen understanding of volunteer motivations, needs and expectations. 
  • Volunteer management, customer service, community organizing, collegiate campaign experience a plus. 
  • Demonstrated comfort and ability to work with and motivate a wide variety of people, including youth and adults, with a preference for candidates with experience in racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse rural and/or recent immigrant communities. 
  • Passion for working in the community: forming, maintaining and strengthening relationships  
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, prospect, pursue, and close leads.  
  • Ability to successfully work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Proven organization and time management skills to complete a high volume of varied responsibilities in a fast paced setting 
  • Excellent strategic problem-solving ability with a positive, “can do” attitude 
Salary Range: $51,000 - $56,000 (travel to and from events is reimbursed)
